Antique Style Captains Desk Chair Brown Leather Revolving Office Armchair.
A superb and wonderfully substantial antique style captain's desk or library chair, upholstered in beautifully antiqued hand-dyed brown leather and constructed around a rich polished mahogany frame. The unusually generous circular seat is complemented by a sweeping horseshoe-shaped back, deeply buttoned and padded for comfort, with broad upholstered armrests and a series of beautifully turned mahogany spindles beneath. Traditional brass studding follows the contours of the upholstery, giving the chair the wonderfully established appearance of a fine gentleman's club or country-house library chair. The design draws upon the classic Victorian captain's chair, a form closely associated with 19th-century offices, libraries and gentlemen's studies. Particularly attractive here is the deeply buttoned Chesterfield-style back, with its rolled end and decorative buttoned terminal, together with the wonderfully warm tonal variation of the leather. The combination of buttoned hide, turned mahogany and brass studs gives the chair a much richer and more luxurious appearance than the simpler spindle-back captain's chairs more commonly encountered. The chair is raised upon a substantial revolving and height-adjustable mahogany pedestal base, supported by four boldly scrolling legs terminating in brass castors. Both practical and highly decorative, it would make an exceptional partner's desk chair, library chair or statement office chair, particularly when positioned behind a large mahogany pedestal desk. The leather has developed attractive variations of cognac, tan and deeper brown throughout, while the polished timber and brass fittings complete its wonderfully traditional English country-house appearance
