"World Cup Footballer" Sculpture, Art Deco, Bronze, 1940s - France
This excellent bronze sculpture was created to commemorate the World Cup. Dating from around the 1940s, it follows the work of Raymond Tschudin (1916-1998), who created similar pieces for the 1938 World Cup. Raymond Tschudin exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français and won the Grand Prix de Rome for engraving in 1945.
The footballer is depicted in the act of kicking the ball. Both his legs and arms lend movement and dynamism to the composition. The figure's gaze is fixed on the ball. He wears a kit typical of the decade, with shorts, a fitted shirt, and shin-length socks. This magnificent collector's piece is made of bronze and rests on a dark marble base.
