A pair of decorative Art Deco pewter candlesticks made in Sweden in 1931 by an unidentified manufacturer. Each candlestick features a sculptural fish with a gracefully curved body, rising from a circular base and supporting a cylindrical candle holder on its upturned tail. The design combines naturalistic detailing with the stylised forms characteristic of the Art Deco period. The sculptural quality of the fish motifs, together with the simplicity of the circular bases and cylindrical candle holders, gives the pair a distinctive and balanced appearance.
Stamped “Prima Svenskt Tenn Handarbete” (First-Quality Swedish Pewter Handicraft), together with the Swedish date code E8, corresponding to 1931. Both candlesticks also bear a commemorative gift inscription dated 1931, engraved along the edge of the bases.
