France, 19th century
Chinoiserie decoration with finely painted and gilt Orientalist landscape scenes, bronze mounts and elegant cabriole legs
H60cm x Ø61cm

A charming 19th-century Chinoiserie side table, probably made in France, inspired by the European fascination with East Asian art and design. The circular top is decorated with a delicate painted and gilt landscape, depicting a small architectural pavilion surrounded by stylized trees, rocks, water and figures in an idyllic setting. Fine double gilt borders frame the composition.

The apron and legs continue the refined character of the table, with gracefully shaped contours and decorative gilt-bronze applications. The combination of warm brown tones, restrained gilding and Oriental-inspired decoration gives the piece a particularly elegant and decorative presence.

A sophisticated example of 19th-century European Chinoiserie, created as much as a statement of taste and refinement as a functional occasional table. See less
