Probably Munich, signed and dated 1900
An exceptionally rare and highly unusual life-size Jugendstil figure, signed and dated 1900. with a height of 140 cm, the monumental scale alone makes this an extraordinary sculptural object, while the unusual subject and highly expressive composition make the figure particularly distinctive.
The woman is portrayed in a dramatic, almost theatrical pose, bending forward while gathering the abundant folds of her flowing evening dress. The sculpture places particular emphasis on the movement of the fabric: the numerous sweeping folds cascade around the figure and create a strong sense of motion. Her lowered head and carefully rendered hairstyle contrast with the dynamic treatment of the drapery, giving the composition an elegant yet highly expressive character.
The treatment of the female figure is especially characteristic of the artistic atmosphere around 1900, when artists increasingly explored movement, sensuality and the expressive possibilities of the human form. Rather than presenting the woman in a conventional static portrait pose, the sculptor captures her in a moment of movement, allowing the flowing dress to become an integral part of the composition.
Life-size Jugendstil figures of this unusual subject and monumental scale are exceptionally rare on the market, and the combination of the date, signature, scale and distinctive composition makes this a particularly remarkable example of sculpture from the turn of the century.
It is evident that the sculptor was a master of his craft and has created an exceptional masterpiece with this one-of-a-kind sculpture
