A hand-carved Nipopo in an unusually small size, with deep wood tones and a fine grain.
Dimensions: height 18 cm, diameter approximately 5 cm.
Nipopo means “little wooden child” in the Ainu language; these figures are traditionally associated with good fortune. The carefully carved face and faceted body give this small example plenty of character. Lovely on its own on a shelf or among Japanese ceramics, where the dark wood adds warmth.
The doll has no signature. In perfect condition, with a beautifully preserved wood surface.
