It looks hand-built rather than factory-made, and its rough, organic surface is typical of 1960s and 70s brutalist studio pottery.

Handmade ceramic lamps from this period were often made in small studios or workshops, so no two are exactly alike. The glaze runs, the irregular holes and the rough surface are part of the piece, not flaws.

Its small, warm glow suits a spot where it can be seen up close: over a bedside table or a small dining table, in a hallway or entryway, or hung in a group of two or three at different heights. It works well with natural materials such as wood, linen, stone and plants, and suits a rustic, Scandinavian or wabi-sabi interior. It gives atmospheric accent light rather than bright task light.
