It is a so-called ‘six-plank chest’, simply crafted from six solid planks of walnut. Over the centuries, the wood has developed a beautiful patina, which, together with the characteristic signs of wear, gives the chest a well-worn and authentic character. The front is deeply carved with, amongst other things, compass roses – motifs often used in folk art as symbols of protection against evil influences. Three old repairs are visible on the lid, bearing witness to a long history of use. The chest still features its original fittings and stands on its original legs. Thanks to its generous dimensions, this characterful piece is not only suitable as a blanket chest, but also makes an excellent sideboard, hall unit or piece of furniture at the foot of a bed. 60 cm high, 162 cm wide, 48 cm deep.12 See less
