A striking Art Deco wall sconce in the form of a stylized palmette, its fluted fan rising from a turned and gadrooned wooden finial. The carved wood core is clad in hand-applied aluminium sheet, secured with rows of small tacks that follow each flute. This technique gives the surface its rhythm and soft, silvery-gold sheen. Aluminium was one of the signature materials of 1930s decorative schemes, prized by designers of ocean liners, cinemas and grand hotels for its modern luminosity. The reverse shows the original construction: a hand-carved hollow body, a half-moon wooden mounting cleat and its original pierced iron keyhole hangers, all with a deep, even patina consistent with age. A highly decorative piece that works as a sculptural wall object, or as an uplight once electrified. Unmarked.
