Set of six Model 316 chairs and two Model 317 armchairs in solid teak with woven paper cord seats. Hvidt & Mølgaard-Nielsen for Søborg Møbelfabrik, Denmark, 1950s/1960s.
Designed between 1955 and 1956 by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for Søborg Møbelfabrik, the Model 316 and 317 chairs belong to a central phase of Danish Modern, marked by the intersection of cabinetmaking tradition and mass production. Working together since 1944, Hvidt and Mølgaard-Nielsen were among the protagonists of this evolution, developing furniture with rational and lightweight construction. The set, produced between the 1950s and 1960s, includes six 316 chairs and two 317 armchairs, crafted from solid teak with woven paper cord seats. Curved backrests, thin cylindrical elements, and distinctive diagonal crosspieces define the design, manufactured by Søborg Møbelfabrik, a leading exponent of postwar Danish design. Good condition.
