Antique Meissen Quatrefoil Oval Porcelain Sugar Bowl, "Weinlaub" Pattern with Gold Accents, c. 1934–1944
An elegant and rare antique oval porcelain sugar bowl (or bonbonniere) manufactured by the prestigious Meissen Porcelain Manufacture (Germany).
This piece stands out due to its sophisticated quatrefoil (Vierpass) scalloped form. It features the iconic underglaze chrome-green "Weinlaub" (Vine Leaf) decor, elevated by luxurious hand-painted gold rims and fine gold-veined highlights on the leaves and the lid's handle. The lid is crowned with a beautifully sculpted, three-dimensional rosebud and branch finial.
The underside bears the authentic underglaze blue Meissen crossed swords mark without year symbols, dating this piece to the pre-war/war era (circa 1934–1944). It is a factory first quality (1. Wahl) piece.
Condition
Excellent antique condition with a minor flaw. The porcelain body and the base are in pristine condition with no cracks, hairlines, or restorations. The green pattern is crisp, and the extensive gold gilding is remarkably well-preserved with no noticeable rub-off.
• Note on the finial: The delicate hand-sculpted rosebud on the lid has a tiny, microscopic flea bite/chip on one of its inner petal edges. It is barely noticeable to the naked eye and does not detract from the overall stunning display value of the piece, but is mentioned for strict accuracy.
