A teak chest of drawers designed by kai kristiansen and produced in the 1960s by the danish company feldballes møbelfabrik. The teak has a warm tone and a distinct grain, especially visible on the sides. It has four drawers, and their most distinctive feature is the carved, half-moon handles cut into the wood, a hallmark of kristiansen’s designs. They are comfortable to use and keep the front clean and simple. The top drawer is lockable and comes with its original brass key. The chest stands on slender tapered legs, which give the simple, compact body a light appearance.
the drawers are made of light wood with dovetail joints, a sign of the high-quality danish joinery of the period. Its versatile proportions make it suitable for a bedroom, hallway or living room, as a bedside chest next to a large bed, or as a practical piece in a study.
kai kristiansen (born 1929) is one of the most important danish furniture designers of the mid-20th century. After training as a cabinetmaker, he studied at the royal danish academy of fine arts in copenhagen under kaare klint and opened his own studio at the age of 26. His best-known designs include the no. 42 chair and the modular fm reolsystem shelving system. Feldballes møbelfabrik was a danish furniture factory that produced kristiansen’s case furniture in the 1950s and 1960s, including the fm reolsystem.
the piece has been professionally and carefully restored by removing old coatings, staining and finishing with varnish. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced carpenter with over 20 years of experience. Thanks to these treatments, the chest of drawers looks stunning and will serve its new owner for many years without fear of damage or wear from everyday use.
