The translucent nature of the vellum allows light to pass through when lit, projecting a warm, vibrant glow. The lamp contains two bulbs, one lighting the shade, the other the base.
Camel Bladder lamps are created by Multani craftsmen, who wash, treat and shape the vellum over clay moulds to dry until rigid. The artistry is known as Naqqashi, a centuries old tradition of painting highly detailed illuminations onto animal skin.
