This stylized Art Deco winged female centauresse hood ornament signed Durel was a custom high-end aftermarket accessory from the 1920s. They were produced in limited quantities compared to standard factory hood ornaments.
Georges Darel (1892–1943) was a Swiss-born sculptor and designer who operated primarily out of France during the height of the Art Deco era in the 1920s and 1930s. His work is highly prized by automotive history collectors today.
These accessories were designed to be mounted on a vehicle's radiator cap. They are well-documented collector pieces and are featured in classic automotive catalog references like "Michel Legrand's Mascottes Automobiles."
This striking ornament is bronze with a silver chrome wash and is bolted to the original radiator cap. Nice old patina.
