Antique Khotan Rug with Pictorial Vase Design in Coral Red, Ivory and Pale Blue. Keivan Woven Arts / rug/JL-100, country of origin / type: Turkistan / Khotan, circa 1900.

An exceptional Antique Khotan rug from East Turkestan featuring a distinctive pictorial design with an arrangement of decorative vases, stylized botanical branches, and symbolic geometric elements. The vibrant coral red and warm salmon-colored central field creates a rich backdrop for a series of ornamental vessels rendered in soft ivory, cream, muted gold, and dark brown. Each vessel displays its own distinctive shape and decorative detailing, including geometric latticework, angular handles, and delicate branching motifs. Subtle accents of pale blue, dusty pink, and warm beige complement the central composition, creating a balanced contrast between the richly colored field and the lighter decorative elements. The unusual arrangement of vessels gives the rug an artistic character reminiscent of traditional Central Asian textile designs.

Surrounding the central field is a wide, softly faded pale blue and light gray border accented with scattered branches, small geometric symbols, and coral red decorative motifs positioned near the corners. A narrow ivory and muted pink inner border, decorated with repeating circular ornaments, provides additional definition and separates the central composition from the spacious outer frame. Fine dark brown outlines emphasize the architectural shapes of the vessels, while the softly aged colors create a gentle transition between the warm coral center and the cooler surrounding border. The combination of open space, carefully arranged decorative elements, and contrasting colors gives the rug a distinctive visual identity.

Reflecting the artistic traditions of Khotan weaving, this antique rug offers a compelling combination of pictorial storytelling, geometric structure, and traditional Central Asian symbolism. Its coral red, pale blue, ivory, and muted beige palette makes it an appealing decorative piece for traditional, eclectic, and contemporary interiors. Particularly suited for living rooms, bedrooms, libraries, or thoughtfully curated spaces, the rug offers a distinctive alternative to conventional medallion designs. The combination of unusual vase imagery, balanced proportions, and softly weathered coloration gives this Antique Khotan rug enduring decorative appeal.
