Seen from high above, a patchwork of fields in lime, moss, saffron and brick red tilts toward a bright blue river that threads through the middle. A pale road cuts a diagonal through the lower half, and a band of blue closes the top edge. The shapes are simplified to broad planes with soft borders, the way a surveyor's plan might become a painting. Podolsky is an architect by training and a contemporary impressionist by temperament, and this canvas lets the two meet in warm, sunlit color and a calm, ordered layout. Thin, dry strokes of red and ochre add a sense of furrowed earth.
A bright, optimistic piece for a kitchen, a family room or a home office. The patchwork of greens and golds works with natural wood, linen and white walls, and the red passages pick up accents in cushions, pottery or books. Over a sideboard, a desk or a narrow console it opens up the room like a window onto farmland.
Oil on canvas, 20 x 16 x 1 in (50.8 x 40.6 x 2.5 cm). Signed with initials in the lower corner.
Miguel Podolsky paints in oil on stretched canvas, and in his more abstract work he reduces landscape to broad planes, bars and facets of saturated color. Strokes overlap, scrape back and leave thin passages where the canvas weave shows through. The structure behind each picture comes from his decades as an architect, a sense of proportion and balance that keeps the freer brushwork orderly. Each canvas carries his monogram, MP, in a lower corner.
Miguel Podolsky is an Argentine-born artist based in California. For more than thirty-five years he worked as an architect, a career that continues to shape his painting through a strong sense of composition, proportion and spatial balance. He is a contemporary impressionist who carries a sketchbook with him and paints whenever there is a chance.
His oil paintings explore light, color and atmosphere across landscapes, seascapes, urban scenes and vintage cars, often finding harmony between the built and natural worlds. Drawing on his South American roots and his many years in the United States, he paints scenes of the California coast, the Caribbean and beyond with a warm, optimistic eye for everyday moments.
