Each … Read more A beautifully hand-painted pair of silk Chinoiserie decorated "Edgedale" panels, made by Chelsea House in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Each opulent watercolor painting depicts an Asian garden landscape scene on a chartreuse-green ground with flowering branches rising from low mounds. The left panel features pink, lavender, gold, and coral flowers, red berries on vines, and persimmons, while the right shows large coral flowers with white and yellow flowers adorning the branches and woven flower baskets strewn across the floor. Various exotic birds, butterflies, and bees are strewn throughout the panels articulated in vivid colors. The painting is done in meticulous detail, with feathered details on the birds, shaded petals and leaves, and gilt-outlined butterfly wings. Each silk panel is housed with an intentionally distressed wood frame to mimic age with a lacquered edge, craquelure finish, fading, and a glass pane. The colorful compositions flow into each other beautifully, able to hang side by side or alone. Crafted in a refined 18th century English Chinoiserie style inspired by 18th-19th century Chinese wallpapers, the pair is well-suited for a variety of spaces.
