This is a monumental and highly intricate sculpture, masterfully carved to resemble translucent amber or aged horn. The piece depicts a serene Bodhisattva (Guanyin) riding atop a powerful, scaled dragon. The figure is seated in a relaxed pose, adorned with an elaborate, pierced crown featuring a central turquoise-colored cabochon, flowing robes, and a beaded necklace accented with similar vibrant turquoise-colored stones. The figure holds a long, curved stem or staff that extends down toward the dragon.
The sculpture is surrounded by a magnificent, openwork mandorla (halo) composed of swirling, flame-like motifs and intricate scrollwork. The dragon, which forms the base of the composition, is heavily detailed with textured scales, sharp claws, and a fierce expression, its body coiling around a central, ornate basin. The entire structure rests on a carved, four-legged stand. The material features a rich, varied palette of golden-yellow, amber, dark brown, and near-black tones, with natural-looking striations that enhance the depth of the carving.
A small, rectangular seal containing stylized characters is visible on the flat underside of the base. This impressive, heavy piece is a stunning focal point for a mantel, large console, or collector's display.

There are minor surface scratches, small scuffs, and slight wear in the deeper crevices and along the high points of the carving, which are typical for pieces of this style. The recessed seal on the base is clear. The structural integrity of the sculpture, including the delicate openwork halo and the dragon's base, appears solid. Please review all photos carefully for a detailed view of the condition. less
