Ultra rare wall lamp model 137 designed by Gino Sarfatti, Italy circa 1938 – 1942. This extraordinary wall lamp originates from the earliest and most experimental phase of Gino Sarfatti’s career, a period in which he was actively redefining the language of modern lighting. Created between 1938 and 1942, the lamp reflects Sarfatti’s pioneering mindset, where function, engineering and form were developed simultaneously through invention rather than convention. The lamp is defined by its striking wooden wall arm, shaped like an elongated boomerang and gently tapered along its length. This sculptural wooden element gives the lamp a strong architectural presence while remaining visually light and elegant. The warm tone of the wood is complemented by finely executed brass hinges and fittings, all of which display a beautiful and authentic patina developed over time. from the wooden arm extends a tubular brass arm that can be adjusted in length by means of a refined brass knob. This mechanism allows the lamp to project outward or retract as needed, offering both functional flexibility and visual drama. Balance is achieved through a solid conical brass counterweight, which ensures that the shade remains perfectly suspended in any chosen position. The shade has been professionally remade in parchment following the original design, finished with a delicate leather laced stitch along the edge. When illuminated, the parchment diffuser produces a warm and atmospheric light that enhances the lamp’s sculptural qualities. The adjustment system is particularly impressive, incorporating two small brass wheels that allow the shade height to be altered smoothly and precisely. The lamp swivels via two discreet brass hinges that attach almost invisible to the wall, allowing for a wide range of positions while maintaining a clean and architectural appearance. Every detail, from the mechanical solutions to the choice of materials, demonstrates Sarfatti’s early mastery of lighting as both an object of design and a functional instrument. The lamp is preserved in fully original condition apart from the shade, which has been carefully and professionally recreated. The wood and brass surfaces show an honest and richly developed patina that adds depth and character without compromising integrity. As an object from Sarfatti’s formative years, this wall lamp is exceptionally rare and stands as a true collector’s piece, representing the very origins of modern Italian lighting design.
