A dramatic scene depicting Judith about to draw her sword against the drunken, sleeping Assyrian King Holofernes to behead him. An impressive, large-format Art Nouveau painting with an expressive depiction of the biblical story, which was already a central motif in Western art history during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Around 1900, artists such as Gustav Klimt and Franz von Stuck revisited the Judith theme, depicting in particular her seductive eroticism and, with it, the psychologically threatening power of women over men. Dimensions: Painting size: 107 x 174; Frame: 187 x 122 See less
