Original three-seater sofa, model 118, designed in the late 1950s by Grete Jalk and manufactured by France & Søn in Denmark. Grete Jalk was one of the few women to establish a firm place in the male-dominated Danish furniture design scene of the post-war period. A trained cabinetmaker, she combined meticulous craftsmanship with a keen sense of form, and her designs made her one of the defining voices of Danish mid-century design. France & Søn was a pioneer in the industrial production of teak and brought international acclaim to Danish design furniture. The original manufacturer's metal plaque is present. The sofa features an elegantly shaped frame made of solid teak with Jalk's signature gently curved armrests. The backrest, with its wide, vertical struts, lends the design a clear, rhythmic structure and creates an exceptionally beautiful rear view, allowing the sofa to be placed freely in the room. The foam cushions have been completely renewed, providing excellent seating comfort and upholstered in a high-quality, light bouclé fabric from the premium Danish manufacturer Kvadrat/Sahco. The cushion covers and dust catcher under the seat cushions have also been renewed.
Condition: Expertly restored. New foam cushions with high-quality bouclé upholstery from Kvadrat/Sahco, cushion covers and dust catcher renewed. The teak frame has been refinished and is in very good, stable vintage condition with only minimal signs of age-related wear. A rare and high-quality designer sofa by one of the most important designers in Danish furniture design. This piece has an attribution mark,
