Incredibly rare, museum-licensed vintage Delft tin-glazed earthenware posset pot / mixing jug produced by the renowned "Oud Delft" pottery works in Nijmegen, Holland. This exquisite piece is an exact reproduction of a historic 17th-century antique (circa 1640, Southwark, London) found in the permanent museum collection of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
This fascinating piece features a bulbous body, a robust handle, and a distinctive integrated hollow tubular straw-spout, historically engineered for drinking warm posset directly from the bottom of the vessel. The jug is intricately hand-painted with beautiful, rich cobalt blue scenery portraying the Prophet Elijah and St. Francis of Assisi amidst traditional floral and avian styling.
An extraordinary find for collectors of Colonial Williamsburg reproductions, early English pottery replicas, or fine Dutch Delftware.
Markings: Base features the official "Oud Delft" hallmark stamp, the "CW" restoration seal, "Made in Holland", and preserves its original paper informational booklet intact on the bottom.

There are absolutely no chips, cracks, structural repairs, or hairline fractures. The fragile tip of the hollow spout is perfectly intact. Glaze is bright and smooth with beautiful cobalt coloration. Please review the high-resolution photos for a detailed look at the pristine craftsmanship and hallmarks. The handle shows a "thumb rest, thumb impression, or thumb press" as well as the rim containing a "pinched lip, a pouring spout, or a rim dip". Just like the thumb rest on the handle, these indentations are a faithful reproduction of 17th-century English delftware craftsmanship and are a vital historical design element rather than defects. less
