An early French sunburst garden bench, distinguished by the rare volute arm terminals found in the first generation of Carré atelier work (circa 1905–1915). The seat and twin circular backrests radiate in sculptural iron slats, creating the iconic sunburst pattern that became a hallmark of French garden design in the early 20th century.
The hand forged frame shows the subtle irregularities and lyrical curves characteristic of preindustrial fabrication, including the tight spiral volutes at the arm ends — a detail lost in later French and American versions. Recently refinished in a soft satin ivory enamel, the bench retains its crisp silhouette and elegant proportions while remaining exceptionally comfortable--a tribute to the sprung-steel construction.
A striking piece indoors or out: perfect for a garden allée, conservatory, entry hall, or as a sculptural focal point paired with Anduze pottery or architectural ironwork.
