The artist renders the female form in full, generous volumes, then gathers all of it into one tall, closed line: the lifted leg, the arms and the body enclose the head like a frame, and the whole weight of the figure rests on a single slender point. A near-black patina covers the polished curves, warming to bronze where the light catches the hips, shoulders and raised thigh, and a band of polished gold rims the round plinth. Strength, flexibility and calm held in perfect stillness.

“Balance” belongs to the Sport series alongside The Rower, The Tennis Player, The Golfer, The Croquet Player, The Gymnast and The Dancer, each a study of the athletic female figure. Tall and narrow, it suits a shelf, console or desk. Cast in bronze using the lost-wax method and mounted on an integrated cylindrical bronze base. Signed by the artist and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Made to order: a hand-cast piece rather than a stock object. See less
