An exquisite and highly intricate antique Chinese hardwood tabletop chest or jewelry box. Crafted with exceptional attention to detail, this piece is a brilliant example of traditional Chinese joinery and metalwork.
The exterior is entirely covered in a finely carved geometric "Wan" (swastika) fretwork pattern, symbolizing eternity and good fortune. It is heavily adorned with gilt-bronze appliqués featuring stylized bats (a symbol of "Fu" or blessings) and traditional coin motifs, representing wealth and prosperity.
The most captivating feature of this chest is its ingenious hidden mechanical design. The central square drawer is flanked by two side sections that slide outward, pulling out two additional deep drawers hidden within the structure.
Supported by an ornate, carved base with Ruyi cloud motifs, this substantial and heavy piece (approx. 4.16 kg) is perfect for storing fine jewelry, desk accessories, or as a striking decorative statement on a console table or bookshelf.
