Bring vibrant energy and deep symbolism into your home with this stunning vintage Shiwan Kiln glazed ceramic sculpture.
This dynamic piece features two beautifully detailed koi fish—one in fiery orange and the other in golden yellow—leaping from a swirling, celadon-green wave base. They are depicted playfully supporting a large, fully bloomed pink and red lotus flower. The glossy, bright polychrome glazes contrast wonderfully with the more textured, rustic finish of the water base, highlighting the masterful, lifelike craftsmanship of traditional Chinese Shiwan pottery.
In Chinese culture, this imagery is rich with auspicious meaning. Fish (Yu) represent surplus and abundance ("Nian Nian You Yu" – may you have abundance every year), while the lotus symbolizes purity and rising above adversity. Standing at 13 inches tall, this impressive, colorful sculpture makes a spectacular centerpiece for a dining table, entryway console, or living room. It adds a bold, artistic statement to any maximalist, Chinoiserie, or eclectic interior.
