The elegant Type 602/K sideboard in ash was designed by the renowned Bauhaus student Franz Ehrlich and manufactured in the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau. Ehrlich's designs for Hellerau revolutionized East German post-war interior design by combining functional, modular furniture with the clear, uncluttered aesthetic of the Bauhaus tradition. The piece's architecture is classically structured: the right and center sections offer ample storage behind hinged doors, while the left side features four gently curved drawers. A particular rarity and a true connoisseur's refinement of this piece lies in the material of the drawer inserts: the drawers are made entirely of solid wood. This clearly indicates that this is a very early production piece from the late 1950s or early 1960s – before the later series production switched to plastic drawers. The original Hellerau stamp, guaranteeing its historical provenance, is also present on the back. This sideboard is crafted from high-quality ash wood, boasting a warm, light tone. The pronounced, expressive grain flows harmoniously across the fronts, lending the geometrically minimalist design a vibrant, natural appeal. We have thoroughly cleaned, professionally restored, and completely sanded and refinished the piece. It is in authentic vintage condition with signs of wear that tell the story of its long life: A slightly darker spot remains on the top surface – because it is deeper in the wood, it could not be completely removed during sanding without compromising the wood's integrity. All imperfections are honestly documented in the photographs.
