This exceptional and rare monkey sculpture is made of patinated and partially polished bronze, attributed to the renowned Danish craftsman and designer Kay Bojesen. Dating from the 1950s, this piece represents a unique bronze version of the iconic monkey that Bojesen originally designed in wood during the same period. This piece from the same era may have been an alternative project for the artist, a commemorative piece, or a personal project for a contemporary admirer.
The figure features movable arms, characteristic of Bojesen's playful, articulated designs. The dark, textured patina of the bronze contrasts with the polished and worn golden areas on the face, hands, and feet, highlighting the sculpture's expressive form and its age. A small red felt pad protects the surfaces at the base. This singular object, approximately 8 x 8 x 8 cm, captures the spirit of mid-century Danish design in a heavy and uncommon material.
with its compact dimensions and historical significance, this piece makes a distinctive decorative object for a desk, bookshelf, or collector's display case. It offers a unique opportunity for enthusiasts of Mid-Century Scandinavian design, designer toys, or rare bronze castings to acquire an unusual variation of a 20th-century design icon. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
