This Brillant Junior portable typewriter was manufactured in the late 1950s by VEB Groma in Markersdorf, East Germany, and distributed in West Germany by the mail-order company Neckermann. Technically it is identical to the Groma Kolibri, widely regarded as one of the finest ultra-portable typewriters of its era. The Kolibri is known for its exceptionally slim profile, low weight and precise, smooth mechanism.
The machine has a beautiful pale metallic green finish that shifts subtly with the light. It is paired with deep bottle-green keys and platen knobs and chrome carriage fittings. It has a German QWERTZ keyboard with umlauts, and the East German quality mark is still visible on the rear paper rest.
The typewriter comes with its original zippered carrying case in tan textured vinyl with orange piping and a light beige handle with chrome fittings. Original cases are increasingly rare for this model.
The typewriter is in excellent condition and fully working. This piece has an attribution mark,
