This ugo cipriani art deco terracotta sculpture, dating from the 1930s, depicts an archer captured at the moment of greatest tension, immediately after releasing the arrow.
the figure is presented in a dynamic horizontal composition, with the torso powerfully twisted, one arm extended towards the bow and the other drawn across the body. The carefully modelled anatomy, flowing hair and drapery convey a strong sense of movement and contained energy.
the terracotta is finished with a sophisticated dark patina featuring brown and greenish undertones, evocative of aged bronze. The sculpture is mounted on a rectangular base and signed “u. Cipriani”.
the underside of the base bears the model number 1687, an impressed ae/fd mark and the wording paris france.
this ugo cipriani art deco terracotta sculpture is a highly expressive work, characteristic of the art deco fascination with athleticism, speed and idealised anatomy. An impressive addition to an art collection, an art deco interior or a sophisticated contemporary setting. This piece has an attribution mark,
