My mother's boyfriend shipped this piece directly from China to Los Angeles in the 1930's as a gift to my mother. At the time, he was working as a sailor in China. The piece is entirely wrapped in deeply detailed, high-relief hand carvings depicting traditional maritime scenes, featuring intricate sailboats (junks), figures, trees, and bridges. The craftsmanship is highly pronounced and dramatically pops off the wood.

Perfect statement piece, end-of-bed trunk, conversational coffee table or hope chest.
