At its center is a tall, arched antique casement window, its white-painted frame softly worn and fitted with brass knobs, a small hook latch and visible hinges. One side stands slightly ajar, letting the outside in. Through the old panes, the garden dissolves into a dreamy haze of blues, lavenders and greens, while trailing leaves hang from the top of the arch like a living curtain.

Along the sill, a window box overflows with pink geraniums, yellow blossoms and spires of wildflowers, and ivy spills down over the ledge into the room. A leafy plant climbs in from the right, blurring the line between inside and out.

In the foreground, an iron daybed is heaped with richly patterned textiles: plush red cushions embroidered with roses and edged in cream fringe, a golden tapestry pillow on the left, plaid accents, and a floral coverlet in rust and cream. An open book rests on the bedspread, its pages turned as if the reader stepped away only a moment ago.
