Painted in oil on canvas and signed by the artist at lower right, the composition exemplifies Lauters' interest in rural landscape and the quiet rhythms of agricultural life.

Guillaume Lauters was a Belgian painter active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is principally associated with landscape painting. His recorded works include pastoral landscapes, village and canal scenes, cattle and sheep, and other subjects drawn from rural life. Works by Lauters have appeared regularly on the European and American auction markets (MutualArt).

The painting is particularly enhanced by its substantial antique frame, composed of wood with richly modeled gilt gesso ornament. With its expansive landscape, appealing rural subject and impressive period presentation, the painting would work especially well in a traditional, European-inspired or collected interior. It is large enough to serve as a significant wall piece while retaining the intimate quality of a 19th-century pastoral painting. 35" x 45" framed, 23" x 33" image only.
