Handcrafted in Italy, this unusual piece recalls the exotic appeal of Chinese Chippendale design. Made of white glazed ceramic in a striking all-white finish, the piece takes the zoomorphic form of a fully sculpted pelican's head, complete with finely rendered details. The body is designed to resemble a woven wicker basket, while the lid is topped with a bamboo-inspired handle, also crafted in white ceramic. Dating from the 1970s–1980s, this piece was found in Rome, where our business is based. It reflects the fascination with exotic-inspired interiors that characterized Roman homes during this period. Designers and brands such as Tommaso Barbi, Vivai del Sud, and Valentino Più were among those creating decorative objects inspired by tropical and Asian influences, incorporating bamboo, palm trees, and exotic animals into their designs, often rendered in glossy white glazed ceramic. The box is in good original vintage condition, with minor imperfections highlighted in the photographs that do not affect its structural integrity. See less
