A sideboard from the Trio model, designed by Nils Jonsson and produced in the 1960s by the Swedish company Hugo Troeds of Bjärnum. The original maker’s label is still present inside one of the drawers. The body is finished in teak veneer with a bold, flame-like grain, shown off especially well on the sliding doors. The most recognisable feature of the model is the central section of five angled drawers arranged like louvres. This front gives the sideboard rhythm and lightness, and each drawer can be opened easily without handles. Recessed oval door pulls, gently raised edges on the top and slender turned legs complete the piece, all typical of Scandinavian modernism.
The sideboard is very practical. Two pairs of sliding doors give access to roomy compartments with adjustable shelves, while the drawers with light wood interiors hold smaller items. The top drawer is lined with green felt, ideal for cutlery or jewellery. Its proportions make it well suited to a living or dining room, or as a TV stand.
Nils Jonsson was a Swedish designer who worked with Hugo Troeds for many years. His sideboards, such as the Trio, Arild and Trento, are among the most recognisable Swedish case pieces of the mid-20th century. Troeds was founded in 1934 in Bjärnum in southern Sweden by Hugo and Svea Troedsson. By the 1950s it was one of Sweden’s leading furniture makers, exporting to many European countries and to the United States.
The piece has been professionally and carefully restored by removing old coatings, staining and finishing with varnish. The restoration was carried out by an experienced carpenter with over 20 years of experience. This piece has an attribution mark,
