An oil on canvas work on its original canvas depicting the Baptism of Jesus by Saint John the Baptist. It is a visually striking painting, rich in figures and characterized by great luminosity. It features a period frame made of wood and plaster, applied to the front of the painting (see photos), with some minor losses to the ornamentation. The composition centers on Christ, illuminated by the Holy Spirit (see photos), while a multitude of reverent, prayerful onlookers witness the scene from the sides. A large-scale, impactful painting with a beautiful patina, ideal for a living room or study. The work has undergone some conservative restoration, including the replacement of the stretcher, color touch-ups, and patches applied to the reverse (see photos). It shows small tears and traces of past restorations (see photos); overall, it is in fair condition and requires further restoration.
