A rare and expressive Andean folk sculpture by Cristóbal Mamani, hand-formed in terracotta and depicting a remarkable fusion of The Last Supper and Nativity traditions. Each figure—Christ and his disciples—is individually modeled with Mamani’s characteristic warmth and humor: animated faces, exaggerated gestures, and hand-painted natural pigments beneath a rustic clay-tiled roof.
Signed Mamani on the reverse. Substantial in scale and beautifully detailed, this piece embodies the devotional sincerity and craftsmanship of mid-century Peruvian folk art.
Dimensions: 15" W × 9½" H × approx. 2" D
Material: Hand-formed terracotta clay with natural pigments
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with only minor surface irregularities from firing and handling, typical of handmade folk pieces. No cracks or structural damage. Ready to hang.
About the Artist:
Cristóbal Mamani (Peru, 20th century) was an acclaimed Andean folk sculptor known for his expressive terracotta reliefs and devotional scenes. Working primarily around Cusco, Mamani transformed Biblical subjects into heartfelt village narratives using local clay and mineral paints. His signed works—often depicting The Last Supper, Nativity, or village celebrations—are now highly sought by collectors of Latin American sacred and folk art.
Collectors Note: This unusual “Last Supper Nativity” composition is a rare and exceptional subject in Mamani’s body of work and an outstanding example of mid-century Andean devotional expression.
