A beautifully composed original still life painting by Ruth Gonzales Hilts (1923–2026), the accomplished Nevada artist whose career spanned decades and whose work is closely associated with the landscapes and natural colors of the American West.
Signed and dated 1976, this intimate composition depicts a richly colored arrangement of a leafy potted plant, an emerald-green glass bottle, a rustic vessel, a vibrant orange, and a small decorative brass object. Warm golden light, earthy tones, and carefully observed details give the painting a timeless, inviting character.
Dating to an early period of Hilts’s professional career, the work offers an appealing example of her representational painting, distinct from the Nevada landscapes and earth-pigment compositions for which she later became known.
Of particular interest is an identifying label affixed to the reverse of the frame bearing the artist’s name, Ruth G. Hilts, and her Reno, Nevada address, providing additional support for the attribution.
The painting is beautifully presented in a substantial, custom-designed frame featuring warm gilt finishes, olive-green accents, a natural linen mat, and an inner wood molding. The thoughtful combination of materials and colors complements the artwork and creates a sophisticated, layered presentation.
An attractive addition to a traditional, collected, transitional, or eclectic interior, equally suited to a study, library, breakfast room, or intimate gallery wall.
