This is a twelve-piece hand-painted carousel animal set in the grand menagerie tradition of the great American carousels, where riders could choose not just a horse but a whole zoo. The figures are cast resin (composition) with a hand-painted folk-art finish, each mounted on its own wrought-iron stand with scrolled feet. They come with their handmade wooden carousel base: a round wood platform about 18 inches across with turned posts, a center column, and a hand-painted canopy in red and slate blue with gold trim, rope detailing, and a red-and-blue pennant flying from the flagpole.

The twelve animals (8 to 18 inches tall):
- Five carousel horses — black with purple and white trappings; white with red and blue; chestnut brown with teal and tan; white with black mane; white with red and brown saddle
- A zebra with red saddle
- Two rabbits — one white with dark saddle, one white with green saddle
- Bruno, the St. Bernard — his name painted on his collar, rescue barrel at his neck, pink and green saddle blanket
- A lion with red and teal saddle
- A white cat with yellow and red saddle
- A frog with blue saddle
- A stork with blue and brown saddle, carrying a cherub/baby figure on the drape — the tallest of the set at 18 in.

Maker: D. De La Ronde (also signed D. Delaronde) — American folk artist active in the late 1980s through the 1990s, known for hand-painted clay, resin, and mixed-media holiday collectibles and carousel-style animals. Bellies embossed "D. DE LA RONDE ©'91"; pieces hand-signed and dated "FAITH 7/92" and "11/92" — the set spans 1991–1992.

Provenance: this set was displayed in the center hall of the American Folk Art Museum in New York City as part of a holiday display around the time the museum's 45 West 53rd Street building opened (December 2001).

Condition: very good vintage condition. Paint is bright with only minor wear at high points consistent with age and careful display; the canopy shows light wear in keeping with its handmade character. The iron stands are solid and stable. Please study the photos — they are part of the description.

Measurements: carousel base 18 in. diameter; 21 in. tall, 32 in. with the pennant flying; figures 8–18 in. tall on their stands.
