this original double-sided metal sign dates from the shōwa period and once hung outside a japanese tobacco shop. The bold black japanese characters たばこ (tabako), meaning ‘tobacco’, stand out against a white background framed by a warm orange-red colour.
the sign displays beautiful traces of years of outdoor exposure. Weathered colours, rust along the edges, areas of wear and natural discolouration give it a richly aged character.
a striking decorative piece bringing a touch of japanese street history into the interior. Beautiful as wall decoration in an industrial or eclectic setting, or as a distinctive accent in a shop, bar or hospitality space.
authentic vintage condition with visible signs of age, rust, scratches and localised wear consistent with years of outdoor use. The original mounting holes remain intact and usable. See less
