After serving as the artist representative and cultural ambassador for the kyrgyz national pavilion at the 59th biennale di venezia, farmanfarmaian presented an immersive, community-oriented textile-based work titled "gates of turan." this project marked the culmination of a year spent living nomadically alongside tribal kyrgyz craftswomen in the tien shan range. Building upon this experience, the shyrdak series represents a natural progression in collaboration with kyrgyz tribal nomadic culture. See less
