This unique and valuable luxury item was designed by the internationally acclaimed Finnish Designer Gunnel Nyman and manufactured by the historical lighting company Idman.
​The lamp masterfully combines natural materials with skillful craftsmanship. The piece is dominated by a stunning wooden slat shade, which gives the lamp a sophisticated architectural look while diffusing light beautifully and warmly into the space. The true eye-catcher is the elegantly round frosted glass plate resting below the shade. The glass is decorated with gorgeous, extremely delicate, hand-painted floral motifs. The glass was produced at the traditional Kauklahti glass factory, and the painting was likely done by Kyllikki Salmenhaara.

Gunnel Nyman (1909–1948) was a pioneer of modern Finnish glass and design. She originally studied furniture design, and her versatile body of work included not only glass and lighting but also furniture for Boman and metalwork for churches. She designed lighting fixtures for Taito Oy, Idman, and the Orno lighting factory.
The style of Nyman's lighting often follows organic lines inspired by nature. In her designs, she typically utilized brass combined with softly diffusing opal or frosted glass. She inventively paired these basic materials with elements like wood and paper cord\.
