Set against a dark, shadowed background, a clear glass vase containing pale, almost ivory-colored roses emerges into view. Two semi-transparent veils drape down from above like light stage curtains, while a horizontal band crosses the scene and a diagonal beam of light illuminates the dark surface. A fallen bud in the foreground completes the still life, which is painted in oils on canvas using cool tones and soft gradations.
