A cylinder with a rounded cap, resting on a circular base where it tilts freely: the lamp rises, falls, and changes its lighting depending on the angle at which it is positioned. The body is pierced with a column of small holes that allow light to pass through in points, while the upper part diffuses it broadly.
designed in 1968 by cesare casati and emanuele ponzio under the name studio d.a., the pillola is one of the objects that introduced molded plastic into italian furniture: its pill shape, mass production, and the deliberate choice to be viewed as a group rather than individually. It is featured in public collections, including that of the museum of fine arts, houston.
this particular example bears the embossed mark "collezione noi — design studio d.a." on its base. It is displayed individually; the pillola is often found in series of several examples.
