A one-piece molded shell, lacquered white, folded into a wraparound backrest and resting on a conical base. Inside, tufted black leather cushions are held in place by buttons. The ottoman features the same base and tufting.
michel cadestin, born in 1942, designed the karaté chair for airborne in the early 1970s. The landes-based manufacturer, which at the time produced olivier mourgue's djinn chair, here combines a molded plastic shell with tufted leather upholstery—two styles that french furniture of that era typically kept separate.
the set unites the armchair and its ottoman, which are often sold separately. The leather has acquired its patina, and the wear on the seat edge is visible in close-up views.
