Transport your space back to the early days of home entertainment with this beautiful, early 20th century radio Optican postcard projector. Expertly crafted by the H. C. White CO. In North Bennington, Vermont, this device dates roughly from 1910 to 1920. It is a classic, highly collectible example of an episcope “magic lantern”. rather than using transparent glass slides, it was innovatively designed to project opaque images, photos, and postcards directly onto a wall or screen, using a system of internal light sockets and mirrors.
Constructed with a heavy duty, multi sided steel casing, the body features are dark charcoal/black Japan finish that shows a spectacular, authentic patina. The structural lines are handsomely accented with a warm copper and brass trim around the base, banding, and dual chimney vents. A large, prominent glass focusing lens is housed in a brass rimmed barrel at the front, offering a distinctive, industrial steampunk vibe that makes it an exceptional conversational display piece.
The top surface displays an authentic historic hand stamped engraving, reading “A.C. Or D.C.”, Highlighting its origin as an early electrical home appliance built to accommodate various municipal electrical grids of the era. The back features, the original, large rectangular hinge door with it central knob latch completely intact. The door open smoothly, allowing access to the interior chamber where media was historically noted for projection.
