With their exaggerated expressions, open mouths, and curving claws, these guardian figures strike a rare balance between playfulness and tradition. The detailing is hand-incised and finished under a lustrous glaze that accentuates their stylized fur and expressive eyes.

These protective lions—also known as Shishi or guardian dogs—are often displayed in pairs to symbolize strength and balance. This particular pair rests in a relaxed, reclining position with slightly cocked heads and bright yellow inner ears that inject a surprising splash of color. Ideal for bookshelf, console, or altar display, they bring charm and cultural significance to any interior, whether used in a maximalist, eclectic, or classically Asian-inspired setting. Glaze pooling and irregularities consistent with handmade vintage ceramic work. Sold as a pair. See less
