I painted Two Selves to explore the inner duality we all carry inside. The painting shows a woman holding a cocktail in an elegant dress, while a second version of her stands in profile right behind her.
The figure in front is dressed up and present for the outside world, but the figure in the back looks away in deep thought. I used deep purple and brown tones on her skin, thick texture in her afro, and a soft, radiating background to show the energy around her. This piece is about balancing who we are in social spaces with the quiet, reflective person we are on the inside.
