The design features turned wood drawer pulls that taper from the top of the chest to the bottom; the wood grain alternates from horizontal to vertical veneer pieces; and the base has a distinct curved design. There are 5 drawers, despite the appearance of 6 drawers, as the bottom drawer is deeper than the rest and has 4 pulls.

Given this dresser was made in 1940, it has had quite a life. When I acquired it, it was missing its original base and was in poor condition. It took a number of years to find the right person to build the base accurately and to size, so that it would support the body of the dresser's weight. A model was created in order to match the exact specs of the original base. The knobs and body of the dresser were sanded and patched as needed in order to prepare it for its final refinishing, which is how it appears in the photos. In certain light, the wood might look slightly lighter, but any way you view it, it is a really beautiful and rare design that Rohde designed for Herman Miller. See less
