Wall-mounted fir sideboard by Charlotte Perriand, a model created in 1952 for her own apartment on Rue Las Cases in Paris, then adapted in 1967 for the renovations at Les Arcs.
The story of this piece of furniture begins in Charlotte Perriand's personal world. In the early 1950s, she furnished her apartment on Rue Las Cases as a veritable domestic laboratory, designing furniture directly linked to its use and the optimization of space. This sideboard was born in this context, conceived to store and display dishes while freeing up floor space. Perriand retained this model in her personal vocabulary, as it can also be found in her chalet in Méribel, another essential place in her relationship with the mountains and with living. Its presence in her own homes demonstrates how she considered certain pieces of furniture not as fixed creations, but as solutions that she could reuse, develop, and adapt to different spaces.
In 1967, while working on the renovations of Les Arcs, she adapted the sideboard design once again for the resort's apartments. from her Parisian apartment on Rue Las Cases to her chalet in Méribel, and then to Les Arcs, the journey of this piece of furniture reflects nearly twenty years of Charlotte Perriand's research around a single principle: designing simple, functional furniture closely linked to the architecture. Made of pine, the sideboard consists of two side panels with characteristic curved cutouts, connected by various horizontal elements. Its wall mounting frees up floor space and perfectly addresses the need for space that structures the compact apartments of Les Arcs.
Our example comes from the Les Belles Challes residence in Arc 1800.
